Shortly after I became councillor for Stoke ward in September 2009 I got chatting with local residents and realised that there was a real appetite for the Moggy Pond on Bellfields Green to be tidied up and made an even more welcoming place to visit and just ‘be’. This lead me to speaking to a then member of the GBC Parks Department about the potential for getting what was to become the Bellfields Greenspace Project off the ground. Four years and many meetings, changes of people involved, countly funding applications and loads of hard graft later I am thrilled that with the project now almost complete the Bellfields Greenspace team will be welcoming local residents, councillors, council officers, business representatives and more to the rejuvenated Moggy Pond’s grand opening on this Saturday 18th May from 11am to 2pm.
The event kicks off at 11amwith County Councillor Pauline Searle cutting the ribbon to officially open the pond at 12pm along with David Hodges, Leader of Surrey County Council.
There will be light refreshments, activities for all the family including pond dipping and things organised by GBC Play Rangers, and a wide range of community services will be attending to showcase what they do.
